Well, this is it! The last weekend on PSE’s Rock the Bulb Tour – we’re going to miss you, bulb rockers! You’ve helped us distribute over 468,000 energy-saving CFL bulbs so far, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Stay tuned in the next few weeks as we announce the winner of the Be an Energy Rock Star Contest! We can’t wait to see who comes out on top to win part of $45,000 in prizes.

If you are a PSE residential electric customer and you have yet to exchange 10 incandescent bulbs for free CFL bulbs, join us for some spooky fun this weekend in Olympia! Saturday, we’ll have Halloween activities and candy for the kids. And on Sunday, the folks from Spirit 105.3 FM will be on site from 2-4 PM to help us rock the Tour to a close.

Most Rock the Bulb Tour fans come visit us, but this October, Rock the Bulb hopped a bus to reach its fans! Not one of those tricked-out tour buses, but something even better—Sound Transit buses!

One morning earlier this month, magician Nate Jester joined the Rock the Bulb Tour as a guest act for a special performance on selected bus routes in the Puget Sound region. From Bellevue to Renton to Kent to Auburn, our magician transformed incandescent bulbs into CFL bulbs and showed commuters the money they could save by switching to CFL bulbs. Over 300 lucky folks witnessed the magic and received a free 13w CFL bulb.

CFL bulbs reduce energy bills as if by magic!

That’s right, back-to-back record breaking weekends! When all was said and done in Auburn over 2,000 customers had exchanged 19,800 incandescent bulbs for new CFL bulbs. Many customers also toured the ENERGY STAR Exhibit House and got to hang out with KMTT and KMPS radio stations.

With the help of Auburn’s faithful bulb rockers, our totals are:

• 409,203 incandescent bulbs changed out for CFL bulbs
• 94,525,893 kWh of electricity saved
• $17,595,729 saved on energy bills
• 103,978,482 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions avoided
• Equivalent to 8,638 cars off the road

Just to repeat, that’s more than 400,000 bulbs given away so far! We’re thrilled at the response from our customers. If you haven’t joined us yet, check out our upcoming events here. Things seemed to have slowed down a bit since our record breaking weekend in Bremerton. Little did we know what  Bellingham had is store for us!  This weekend, Bellingham showed us our most rockin’ event so far with over 1800 PSE customers joining us to exchange their incandecent bulbs for new CFL bulbs. With the help of Bellingham’s unprecedented turnout, our tour totals are now:

• 294,656 incandescent bulbs changed out for CFL bulbs
• 68,065,536 kWh of electricity saved
• $12,670,208 saved on energy bills
• 74,872,089 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions avoided
• Equivalent to 6,220 cars off the road

We took Labor Day weekend off but the folks in Mt. Vernon showed us that we hadn’t been forgotten! Almost 1,200 PSE residential electric customers came out to spend some time with their fellow energy rockstars! After last weekend, we have reached:

• 278,073 incandescent bulbs changed out for CFL bulbs
• 64,234,863 kWh of electricity saved
• $11,957,139 saved on energy bills
• 70,658,349 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions avoided
• Equivalent to 5,870 cars off the road

Ahoy, Bulb Rockers!

We’ve missed you! After a break last weekend, we are gearing up to once again Rock the Bulb, this time in Mount Vernon September 12-13, 10 AM – 4 PM each day. If you haven’t already, join us this weekend to turn in up to 10 incandescent bulbs in exchange for 10 CFL bulbs.

We now have more than 4,200 Be an Energy Rock Star Contest participants. Carilyn B. has been holding on to the lead for the last three weeks, and her point total is now 185 points. But watch out: William V. is hot on her heels with 180 points.  With less than two months left in the contest, start catching up! Here are some ideas:

• Stop by an upcoming Rock the Bulb Tour stop to earn 50 points for exchanging up to ten bulbs, as well as an additional 50 for visiting all the stations and speaking with a PSE Home Energy Advisor. That’s 100 points in one stop!
• Been to an event already? Liked it? Come back and volunteer! It’s a fun and interactive way to get another 30 points towards the contest.
• Don’t forget to recruit your friends to sign up for the contest—each one that signs up scores YOU 5 points. That may not seem like a lot of points, don’t forget: but slow and steady wins the race.

Energy-Saving Tip of the Week: Summer is winding down, sadly, and for the Pacific Northwest, this usually means a straight shot into winter. This also means it’s a great time to check your air filter! A dirty air filter will slow down air flow and make your HVAC system work harder to keep you cool or warm, which wastes energy. Check it at least once a month during heavy-use seasons (summer and winter) and once every three months during light use.

For more energy-saving tips, check out PSE’s Energy Insider – in a couple weeks, you’ll be able to get contest points for using EI to set energy savings goals and tracking your energy use during October – this is the way to earn the big contest points, so get ready!

Rock the Bulb has distributed more than 247,000 energy-saving CFL bulbs to PSE residential electric customers so far! Installed, these bulbs represent over 57.1 million kWh of electricity saved, over $10.6 million saved on energy bills, and greenhouse gas emissions equal to taking over 5,200 cars off the road for a year.

Saving energy sure rocks.

Another Rock the Bulb weekend has come and gone, which means it’s time for us to hit the road and get ready for next weekend in Oak Harbor. Thank you to every one of our Anacortes bulb rockers who helped us reach a milestone this weekend with over 70,000 bulbs exchanged for energy efficient CFL bulbs at our tour stops! With the help of Anacortes we’ve now:

• Exchanged  165,082 incandescent bulbs for CFL bulbs
• Saved 38,133,942 kWh of electricity
• Saved $7,098,526 on energy bills
• Avoided 41,947,336 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions
• Equivalent to 3,484 cars off the road

In other news, our friend Kellie at Project Porchlight got to hang out with some real energy rock stars last week! Kellie managed to get the guys from Foreigner to take some time out of their day to show their support for bulb rockers everywhere!

Puget Sound Energy’s Rock the Bulb Tour rolls on, and this weekend we’ll be back on the Kitsap Peninsula in Bremerton. If you are a PSE residential electric customer and you missed us last week in Silverdale, be sure to come out to Lowe’s in Bremerton and learn how to be a true energy rock star! We’ll be there Saturday and Sunday (August 8-9) from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Bring up to 10 incandescent  bulbs and exchange them for free, energy-efficient CFL bulbs.
